Does Anyone Actually Care About The Clippers?

In case you missed it (and I'm sure most of you did) the Clippers unveiled their new uniforms a few weeks ago. Who you ask? You know, that other team that plays in LA when the Lakers are out of town. I've always wondered who and why would anyone be a Clippers fan. I just don't get why their owner ever moved them there in the first place. It seems like they have no chance of ever being successful. Anyway, here are the new unis.

Nothing too special, though I do like the tweaks they made. What I've never liked is that they changed their colors and logo from their San Diego days. I actually have a tiny soft spot for the team, since they once hailed from my birthplace. I would really like to see them move back and revert to the old colors of orange and light blue. Maybe something like this...

or even this...

either way, they need to get out of LA. Maybe they should change their colors to green and gold and their name to the Sonics. I'll bet Seattle would love to have them! Later.

I Got My Wife Cards For Her Birthday And Lived To Tell About It!

Yes, you read that right. My wife didn't get me cards for my birthday, I got her some cards for hers. Granted that wasn't all she got. He main gift was a few months ago when she got her new laser eyes (Lasik). I wanted to get her something to actually open on her birthday though so along with a new CJ Wilson Rangers shirt (he's her favorite), I picked up these two cards.

This is a cool Superstar Celebrations card from 2010 Topps Opening Day commemorating Michael Young's walk off home run last year. This same photo was used for the Jr. Rangers banner they gave out this year which proudly hangs front and center in Baby Peas' room.

I also got my wife her first autographed card. This one is of CJ Wilson from Topps 2009 set. She isn't a card collector really (she'd probably never actually buy one herself), but she tolerates my and the kids' hobby. She is a school teacher and has a little Rangers display on her desk of a few cards and a Hamilton bobblehead, so these should fit in nicely. I must say, it's nice to have a wife that you can enjoy your love of sports with. If you don't have one already, getcha one! Later.

WTF? Has Topps Ever Been To An Actual Game?

A few days/weeks ago, whatever, Topps released this image of Tim Tebow from their new football set Topps Prime. It looks as though this may be a Stadium Club type release and is actually a pretty nice design for a base card.

What caught my eye however, was the piss poor photoshop job they did. Based on the yardlines, Tim is clearly headed for the endzone, right? Well, since when do the opposing teams stand in opposite end zones? Check it out. The Eagles are clearly lined up behind Tim as he heads down field. Not only that, but they are in green jerseys, which would make this a color on color game, which doesn't happen in the NFL. You'd think the people at Topps could fake a background image a little better or at least learn from past mistakes. The Tebow card immediately reminded me of another card in my collection.

Check out this Dirk rookie card. He's dunking the ball at one end and behind him are the scorers tables which, obviously, are normally located along the sidelines. The perspective is completely wrong as the lane at the other end is barely visible and the court seems to abruptly run right into the tables. Apparently Topps is just as half-assed in 2010 as they were in 1999. Later.

Captain Canuck, Here You Go!

Captain, hope you like this card of Van der Sar goin' all out to make the snag. Goose had a couple sweet saves himself today while posting a shutout in his tournament game. Hopefully we'll win tomorrow and advance to the semifinals and get to spend another whole day sweatin' our nuts off at the soccer complex. Wouldn't think of being anywhere else though! Later.

Are You Ready For Some Football?

Today's the big day! The English Premier League kicks off it's 18th season today and Newcastle is back!

After winning the Championship title last season they are back in the Premiership where they belong. The Magpies don't actually start until Monday when they face off against the Red Devils of Man U., but I've got the DVR ready to roll. In honor of the start of a new season, here's my first EPL card of last season's leading scorer for Newcastle, Andy Carroll.

Besides the EPL season kicking off today, Goose begins a new season with his new club today as well. A little pre-season tournament shindig before the real thing begins next week. Nothing like a little soccer action in 105 degree Texas heat! I'll probably lose 5lbs. just watching. Later.

Anyone Wanna See More Customs?

I'm not the best of writers when it comes to blogging. A lot of times I have trouble coming up with topics to write about. Sometimes it really feels like a chore to think of anything worthy to say and I wonder if anyone will read it anyway. I've managed to gather a decent sized group of followers and hopefully you guys aren't bored to death with most of my content. I'm hoping that if my writing isn't up to snuff, people will at least be interested in my customs enough to stop by every once in a while. So here's another batch. I'm on a football kick! Enjoy.

I think the Browns need to fully embrace the Bulldog logo. I can't stand when they just put their helmet on caps and things like Colt's shorts. The actual helmet is fine blank, just use the dog more everywhere else, okay?

I can't remember who exactly, but I know there is a fellow blogger out there who is a Bowe fan. This card's for you! Personally, I can't stand the Chiefs.

I don't really know why I made a Patrick Willis card. Just wanted to get some different colors and logos used I guess.

I really like how the colors turned out on this Chargers card. Now if they would go back to their old unis, I'd be happy. I don't mind the white helmet, but the shoulder stripes and number font are all wrong and I can't stand the sock tops being the same color as the pants. It looks like everyone is wearing skin tight capri pants these days, and they're not the only team at fault. Bring back contrasting striped socks please!! Later.

Dirk Is King!

See, he even has a crown on his head. Or behind his shoulders, whatever. Panini recently released their Crown Royale NBA cards, I guess they got the name from Pacific at some point. Anyway, I'm pretty much a cheap skate, so I doubt I'd ever buy a pack of these, but I had to pick up a few cards of the man at least. This is the die-cut base card.

I also grabbed this Royalty jersey card for a couple bucks. I really like this set. It's definitely one of Panini's better ones, even if it is a little cheesy. Cheese can be good. At least they don't look so much like their other releases. The one weird thing about this set are the All-Star cards. I don't believe Dirk has one, but a lot of other fringe players do. A lot of them have only made 1 appearance. Where are the superstars? You'd think that a set called All-Stars would include perennial guys, not a bunch of one hit wonders. Oh well, what do I know? Hall Of Famers Are Here!

Okay, so they're a few days late.

Better late than never, right? Later.

Big D Hall of Fame Customs That Aren't. Yet.

In honor of the NFL kicking off the season with their Hall of Fame weekend, I decided to make some Hall of Fame cards. I had a batch of Big D Customs ready to go featuring newly inducted Emmitt Smith & Jerry Rice along with some other favorites of mine from years past. I somehow didn't get the files onto my thumb drive, though, so you'll have to settle for some guys who aren't Hall of Famers, they're just pretty good.

I'll try to get the Hall of Famers posted within the next couple of days. Later.

Catcher Quotes.

"Hey, you want a knuckle sandwich?"

"Streaker! Streaker!"

"Check it out. I'm doin' the worm!"

"Dude, check out my muskateer beard. I totally drew it myself!"

"Why won't mom buy me my own gear. I hate wearin' my sister's stuff!"

"Man, why do I have to wear all this crap when I'm playin' left field?"

"Here boy, here boy! Come get the ball."

"Yeah, well I got a 7ft purple dinosaur that says this is our field, so take a hike!"

Thanks to Nico from Nr Mt for the cards. Later.

Legends of the Fall: Futures - A New Big D Customs Set

Well, football season is upon us. The Cowboys kick-off the season in the Hall of Fame game this weekend and Goose has just started his freshman football camp this week. Usually, I'm totally gung-ho for football by now as the Rangers are usually out of contention, but it looks like we'll most likely have meaningful baseball around here for at least a couple more months. That didn't keep me from whipping up a new batch of football cards, though. This set features a few dudes that I think have future "Legend" potential. That, of course, is always debatable but hey, it's my set so I can put whoever I want in it right? Check 'em out!

Drew got himself a Super Bowl ring last season. That always helps on your way to becoming a legend.

Brian's pretty much a bad-ass, though he needs to stay healthy. We'll see how he does after missing basically all of last season.

If anyone is going to be bummed about Kurt Warner's retirement, it's this guy.

Jason is one of the best Tight Ends in the game and has the potential to be even better than the great Jay Novacek. Most games he seems to be Tony Romo's best friend. He saves his ass a lot.

As usual, let me know what y'all think. Later.
