Wow, Kurt was a 3yr old All-Star?

Well, this is ridiculous too! I know everyone is bashing the 09 Topps Ticket to Stardom, but the fact of the matter is, I kinda like them. The base that is. I know they are a little plain, but they seem to have a decent mix of players from each team, and the Nick Swisher Auto/Relic we pulled is a nice looking card (on its way to Drew). I have also seen examples like the one Beardy posted of a Markakis card that has an Angels vs. Indian stub. Strange. Tonight I came across an oddity myself, while looking on ebay for a Kurt ticket card.

Apparently Kurt was the youngest All-Star of all time since he played in the All-Star game in Oakland in 1987 and he was born in 1983! Awesome! Something else struck me as odd when I saw this ticket, did oaklandathletics.com even exist in 1987? That was my junior year in high school and I know the internet existed then, but I don't remember it much. Seems like it didn't get overly commercialized until later than that. I'm suspicious.

  1. The stub is probably from a season-ticket in the last year or so.

MLB teams tends to spend a little more to make the tickets for season ticket holders look nicer than just the ones you'd randomly purchase from the box office i.e. season tickets may feature an image of a player, commemorate a historic moment from the team's history, a particular event, etc.

The ticket stub probably has no direct association with Suzuki, except he may have played in the game the ticket stub is from.

It seems like the Web site address is an obvious giveaway.

  2. I don't think the people at Topps gave much thought to the stubs they used.
